VISION OF EDUCATION FOR 21ST CENTURY: INTERNATIONAL MINDEDNESS & INTERCULTURAL AWARENESS

We come from a land where the idea of the whole world being one family is rooted in our ethos – ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Narendra Modi

In the last few years, education has made a complete shift in pedagogy, but only for the best. Our society is evolving increasingly diverse, with people from diverse backgrounds, religions and ethnicities living, studying and working together as one community. In present scenario the International Curriculum in schools is characterized by the same international philosophy and approach. It aims to provide learning experiences for small kids catering to both local and global context. Developing practical skills, values to connect with people across the boundaries, leadership skills, innovations from an early age, such initiatives are bound to put students ahead in this competitive world.

Under great educational sagacity of Hon’ble Dr. V.K. Bhatnagar, Founder Chairman Manav Sthali Global School who held the view that fraternal bonding amidst individuals and between societies, and as well as the interaction between the two is the sole means to world peace. He opined that when school educates their students in international pedagogy for world class education, they gradually evolve to become responsible global citizens making productive contributions to the world as one global family. In today’s interconnected and globalized world, cultural diversity and international mindedness have become more important than ever.

The curriculum of the school based on the motto ‘Beyond the classrooms, Beyond the Books’ truly believes that children of this new millennia need more than just a traditional curriculum to be educated. In the recent times their requirements have traversed from the conventional classroom setting to new age erudition that mainly comprises of – thinking beyond the box through project-based experiential learning with the main support of Information Technology that can lay emphasizes on the importance of critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and effective communication at large. To help students fulfill these requirements, the schools with international curricula keeps its curriculum updated constantly through collaborative efforts by properly tailoring, analyzing and understanding regional needs in contrast with those of other nations.

The modern age schools are now gearing up to facilitate children to use their creative bent of mind, viewing their world through an internationally-minded lens and understand how people at large around the world work and live differently. Students imbibing international curriculum learn to develop a profound respect for all cultures and the world as a whole and to develop a generation of future leaders who value global connection and are able to collaborate with people from different cultures and nations effortlessly.

On the whole, children can pursue their interests inside and outside of the classroom leading them not only highly qualified and groomed for the academic arena but also having a fun time development during their schooling foundation years!!

HOW TO PROMOTE OUTDOOR PLAY IN CHILDREN

“If the world is a canvas!! Let them paint, draw, collect, share and build!”

This beautiful quote seamlessly encapsulates the idea about how we can encourage the children in outdoor play activities and games.  These activities are considered to be one of the most vital parts essentially needed in the growth of child’s well-being and healthy learning approaches. Helping them integrate it into their daily lives is a big obligation in modern parenting — yet many parents in today’s scenario are dismayed to find their wards not interested in playing outdoor sports rather tend to swap active outdoor recreation for more sedentary activities that largely includes screen watching often to the detriment of their health and decreasing quality of life.

In this blog, we’ll help you by elucidating few key points how you can get your kids step out of their bedroom areas and spend some constructive time in outdoor playing simultaneously improving their health, continuous learning process and above all adopting an energetic adult lifestyle and witness how you’ll soon be on the way to experience all exciting outdoor adventures with your kids with active participation.

  • Keep Yourself Buoyant and Excited

Start out with a leisure walk in the park or an excursion to a local playground, then work your way up to bigger outdoor adventures. If you look excited to spend time doing outdoor activities, your enthusiasm will rub off and make your kids more thrilled to be outside, too. Lead by example and bring out your inner child during playtime, encouraging kids with a sense of wonder and excitement. Point out everything as if it is the maiden time you have seen it, and don’t be afraid to add some extra pep to your voice as you lead outdoor activities.

  • Plan Few Games That Promise Action and Adventure

You can even modify a simple playing area into a magical outdoor adventure. Take dress-up clothes outside for a small replica of a constructed house or even a palace made with the help of few household items like table, chairs and bedsheets to adorn the area. The more imaginative and diverse your activities would be, the more kids will want to get out and enjoy the sports.

You can also try few simple games like:

Making Chalk Roads: Using chalk and drawing shapes of various sizes and lines that are straight and curvy. Have the kids jump from shape to shape and walk on the lines without falling as this fun game helps them exercise motor skills.

Planning a Nature Scavenger Quest or a Nature Ninja for a Twist: You can play this game in your backyard or local park. Make a list of items with the help of words or even pictures. Give the kids a bag and accompany them as they search for items on the list. Use this time to help them discover new things.

Planting Seeds: This activity will help in inculcating the hobby of gardening in children. This activity can be done in a small community park or by using small cups or pots that are displayed in the balconies. Allow your kid to help you dig in the soil or fill pots, plant the seeds and water them. Teach them that if they will act patient, they will get to see their planted seeds finally nurturing into big shrubs and trees or even flowers sprouting during the spring season.

  • Build Bonds & Companionships

Kids naturally inspire each other, and they will likely want to spend more time outdoors if they have friends of their age to enjoy with. While it may take a little extra effort to plan and supervise larger groups of kids, the joy and confidence children gain from exploring the world with other kids their age are worth developing.

  • Teach Not With Your Words But With Your Actions

Practice the art of demonstration and not just discussion — Kids imbibe and emulate a lot about behavioral and outdoor skills just by observing you and following you in every action.

Just remember dear parents that kids aren’t going to switch easily with their outdoor playing habits in just one day or even one week, and that’s completely OK! Give them some time and patiently encourage them to adapt these outdoor playing habits even if they start small as they engage themselves and explore the outdoor spaces!!

READING NEWSPAPER – A NUDGE IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION!!

Reading should not be presented to children as a chore or duty. It should be offered as a precious gift” –

These profound words quoted by Kate DiCamillo well known as an American children’s fiction author are the most relevant and evocative, especially during the present scenario, where children these days are mostly confined to the four walls of their homes after their regular school time.

Witnessing a drop in the AQI (Air Quality Index) levels in the recent past parents must be curious to know how they can engage their children with some recreational, productive and other tangible ways that can help them make their children adapt to effective reading and learning habits while staying indoors.

Manav Sthali Global School has the answer for this.  Yes!! It’s the same old conventional black and white pack of papers that is read all over the world with much interest and keenness – The Newspaper. It not only enhances the child’s knowledge about the world but also develops a habit of justifying things with fact-based and fool-proof reasoning before believing anything easily. Newspapers also teach them the art of sitting down patiently and contemplating over things before making their final opinion.

All of you all must be well aware children can be shirkers at times when it comes to learning, reading and writing. They often make excuses to get away from their regular studies and indulge in their own play. With the education system trying to implement various alternatives like online learning in order to safeguard children’s physical health thus, making the world rise towards the technological advancements with each passing day, the little learners are only becoming addicted to the Information Technology. Their eyes are fastened to screens daily, be it for watching T.V. or playing games on mobile phones and laptops. Reading has now become restricted only to their school textbooks for the purpose of achieving good grades in their appraisals.

In these developing times, it is quite challenging to get kids to start reading newspaper instead of using any electronic gadget during their recreational time and turning it into a habit even more so. But acting as their Rock of Gibraltar we will suggest few research-based “best practices” that would help your child in inculcating this daily habit.

  • RECOGNIZE YOUR CHILD’S INTEREST – Do not force children to read portions in the newspaper what you desire. You can figure out their area of interest and ask them to read that particular section. For instance, if a child has passion for sports, you can suggest articles from the sports section. This will encourage him/her to read about something that he/she would really love and will also grasp some knowledge.
  • CREATE A ROUTINE – Read the newspaper with your children daily. Ask them to read while you sit beside them so that any mistakes can be rectified on the spot.
  • INTEGRATE SCHOOL LEARNING WITH NEWSPAPER READING – You can use newspapers as an extension of your child’s school textbooks. For example, you can select appropriate paragraphs from the newspaper and give your child reading comprehension exercises. You can also teach grammar and do vocabulary-building exercises with them to help facilitate language development.
  • INSPIRE YOUR CHILD TO MAKE A NEWSPAPER SCRAPBOOK -You can also teach your child to make a scrapbook by clubbing together interesting articles, advertisements, comic strip series, word scramble games, etc., published in the newspaper. This will not only make them pick up the newspaper frequently but will also aid them with a meaningful hobby to follow for life.
  • MOTIVATE YOUR CHILD TO CONTRIBUTE ARTICLES – This is an effective way to encourage your children to regularly send their entries to sections that invite contributions such as short stories, poems, drawings and pictures of craftwork.

Help your child become a lifelong learner by developing in them a love for reading newspapers with these tips. This will surely help them become a more socially attentive and responsible citizens.

EAT MOVE AND WIN! WITH GLEEFUL HEARTS, SPREAD YOUR WINGS!

IT ALL STARTS WITH A NUTRITIOUS BREAKFAST

Post pandemic eating habits amidst children have significantly got altered. In the hustle and bustle of our busy lives schedule, we may have observed most of the kids these days have become fussier, demanding and attention seekers. However, regardless of how much fuss the kids make especially when it comes to their eating habits, parents should always focus on serving a plate full of right nutrition to their kids so that they remain in the pink of health. It is quite relatable for every parent when mornings are always rushed and children feel the stress of the rush as much as they do. So, in order to avoid this bedlam, we must reorganize our morning schedules making their day more productive and pleasurable.

With that being said, we, at Manav Sthali Global School, will be accentuating the breakfast basics that all parents need to be well aware of.

What makes breakfast so important for kids?

The brain needs a constant supply of nutrients to understand and remember information. In other words, it is the ‘Powerhouse of the Body’ that needs to be well fed in order to learn and acquire knowledge. One of the foremost reasons why kids need to have a proper breakfast every day is because it refills the energy reserve of their bodies furthermore, keeping their body weight also in check. In fact, kids who skip breakfast and come to school with either empty stomach or even with a glass of milk end up facing problems like stomach ache and vomiting.

The chief reasons why children don’t eat breakfast are

  • In many households, children leave for school much before their parents leave for their work. They have to eat in a hurry – often amid bellowing from their parents to eat faster. This is certainly not the most conducive of environments as it not only creates anxiety in their minds but also makes them lose their appetite.
  • Children do not empty their bowels before they leave for school. This is also the main reason why children are not hungry for breakfast in the morning. The parents should ensure that their child wakes up with enough time in hand to use the washroom. They should be consistently encouraged by their parents to do that every day as a morning regimen.
  • Serve a wholesome breakfast that can be quickly eaten in a few bites. Breakfast for children should be planned in advance and put together such that several nutrients can be combined together in a single small dish that does not require too much chewing.

What to give the kids for breakfast?

The aim should be to ensure that kids get enough calcium, protein and other vital nutrients through their breakfast. So, it’s better to choose breakfast foods like Wheat Bran Pancakes, Oats Idli, Ragi Upma, Chocolate Muesli, Cereal and Apple Porridge, Banana and Peanut Butter Smoothie and many more that are quick, easy, filling and most notably delicious.

Not to forget, make sure to never have junk food as a breakfast option on the table because those high-salt and high-fat permeated meals will do more harm than good to the small kids. If the kids insist for fancy foods like pasta or even a burger in the morning, accordingly plan in advance and make a healthy version at home instead of relying on ready to serve products.

Even better, take them to the nearest grocery store with you and let them explore few healthy breakfast foods that may sound tempting to them. You can also opt for an option where you can ask your child each night before their bedtime of what they would like to have for their breakfast the following morning which could help you in planning things in advance.

Just remember the bond between you and your child can be made stronger with these habits that can be easily incorporated into your everyday routine – including breakfast at a leisurely pace!!

‘Learning gives creativity, creativity leads to thinking, thinking provides knowledge, knowledge makes you great.’

Creativity is the use of imagination or original ideas to create something. All human beings possess creative ideas that can help to make wise decisions. With the advent of the internet, tablets, smart watches, smart phones, and many more gadgets life has become very comfortable for mankind. But as we all know excess of everything is terrible. Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master. The internet is a basic necessity these days. We have easy access to myriad of information. Every answer is a just a one- click away. But what is this easy access to information doing to our creative abilities?

These time saver and alternative techniques are a hindrance     to our originality and expression. Some of the information we find on the internet is not reliable.

Today, especially the youth, spend prolonged hours scrolling through social media feeds and unnecessary stuff just to flaunt or show off which actually deprives them of engaging in more creative activities. We must not erode our creativity by becoming slaves to these technical devices rather we should keep our mobile phones at arm’s length, be resourceful, look at the world through fresh eyes by being observant and drawing our own conclusions for a reliable learning experience.

With the evolution of interesting possibilities emerging in today’s modern era Manav Sthali Global School has always supported the unified combination of modernity and moral ethics. It is well known to everyone that imagination is an extension of reason, an ability that allows any child to plunge in a world of new opportunities. Very often, the spirited imagination of children becomes the stepping-stone to the world of knowledge. When children are permitted to imagine, ideas and thoughts turn into reality, thus, making learning a lifelong process.

MSGS holds the view that one way to support a child’s sociability and friendship is to create “Playdates” among kids. From crafts to activities, there are so many fun things to do on a playdate covered right here! Nothing is more charming than wide-eyed, chubby-cheeked tiny tots where the teachers let these little learners loose themselves in the world of fantasy; playing their favourite games and other free activities, like story sessions, drawing, painting and unstructured toy-time, tattoo crafting and much more. One such playdate ‘WINTERLAND’ was organised and hosted by our school for the kids in the age group of 3-5 years. This play date acted as an encouraging prelude to formal schooling, where not only the kids but also the parents, all collectively had a ball together, finally marking the day – as a super and memorable event in the school’s memorabilia!
